Institutional Backlash
DESCRIPTION: Institutions—whether a church, workplace, school, or government agency—can support us, but they can also cause deep harm. People with certain identities are often targeted, marginalized, or isolated. Someone with a disability may have to constantly fight for accommodations, or a person may be dismissed or punished for naming mistreatment. Over time, these experiences can leave people feeling wounded, disoriented, and unsure of their own reality.
TREATMENT: I help people reality-check their experiences and reclaim their narratives. Together, we make sense of what happened, name the harm clearly, and explore the stories that have shaped how they see themselves. I also work to counter feelings of powerlessness by inviting clients to re-engage their experiences with greater clarity, agency, and connection to their values.
